will can a 388ci stroker with a 274 duration roller cam work with ECU and a stock chip. Or do I have to have a custom chiop made for it ?
First advertised duration is but one small part of a cams profile. Lobe seperation has a lot to do with how the ECM will deal with the cam. What type of ECM and Motor would also play a huge role. IMHO you need to get the car tuned reguardless just because of the added CI's. When selecting you cam try to select a ECM freindly cam, typiacly 112-114 LS
I'm sure you're going to run bigger fuel injectors so the stock chip isn't going to work. My 383L is running with 36lb injectors. You'll need to play with the timing map a bit also.
An 85 comes with 24lb/hr injectors, so hopefully you dont need new ones. The quick answer is yes, you will need a chip burnt for the application, nearly everytime you change a cam and enlarging the motor will necessitate it.
Its better to state the duration @050" for the cam than just the duration.
