I'd be pretty careful about e-bay mail-order chips. If it's crap, good luck getting your money back.

TPI Chips has been an advertiser in "Chevy Hi-Performance" magazine for years. While I have no experiance buying from them, I am about to. I've spoken with them several times and feel they are compitent. I'm sure no mail order chip will be as good as a custom chip made at a test facility where they have your car on a dyno but TPI Chips prices are much more reasonable. You get what you pay for, and right now, I can't afford the custom dyno version. I think this may be a good mail order chip which will be better than the Hypertech (and other) off-the-shelf versions for less money.

I've had one in my 85 for over 6 months with no problems. It is definitely a better chip than the Hypertech that was in it. I was told that if I wasn't happy with it they would burn me another one, no charge. I had a few issues that I called them about but were non chip related and they were very pleasant and helpful. I've got my car apart for some new mods and I contacted them about flashing the egr out of the chip and they said no problem, send the chip and $20 and they'd take care of it. I say go for it at least until you can afford a custom chip, that's what I'm doing.

I think that a granola bar would work better than a hyperchip.

Have you considered www.pcmforless.com ? I am very happy with their results, both mail order and dyno tunes. His rates are very reasonable and he is a supporting vender.

jjgkdg,
I got one of TPI chips (custom) and it improved the way the car ran. To get a tune right you really need to put it on a dyno and tune it that way, and it is hard to get it right the way most people want it the first time around without a dyno. I just order a cable to hook up a laptop to see want the engine is doing. 12.7 @ 108 with 3.07 gaers

Yep,I got a chip from TPI for my 85 and I'm very satisfied.

It runs great and the chip was much less than the so-called national brands.

You can buy direct from tpichips.com or on ebay.

Good Vendor & Product.
