ASR and ABS Lights On
I just took my 1992 C4 six speed for a ride. I noticed that the brake pedal seemed low. I hit the brakes, made a right turn and suddenly the instrumental panel lit up and said "Check ASR and Check ABS." Also on the dash the brake light came on. They all stayed on until I got home (about 3 miles). I parked the car and turned it back on and all of the lights were off. The brake pedal definitely seems lows. I can get the toe of my shoe underneath the pedal and the floor when the pedal is fully pressed.
I'd appreciate any advice you can give as to the problem.
Thanks
Randy
when was the last brake job done? A low pedal makes me think that the pads are about done... or there is a bad seal in the caliper somewhere. Also make sure the brake lines haven't been hurt. Finally, check the master cylinder. If there are any signs of fluid weaping between the master and the booster, the internal seal failed.
The ABS/ASR module is in the storage bin behind the drivers seat. Check to be sure water hasn't gotten in there.
for the most part, you can expect that warning lite is a way of telling you that something is wrong with the braking system. The ABS/ASR module has proven itself to be quite durable.
Thanks for getting back to me. The fluid level was low. I think there is a leak. As you face the car, on the lower firewall there seems to be some fluid. Also there is fluid on the brake lines that run under the car along the frame on the drivers side.
If the master cylinder was leaking would I see it beneath the MC on the power booster? I don't see any there on the MC but to the left and lower on the firewall.
thanks
Randy
