distributer shaft end play
The title says it, I am just finishing the upper end build and placed distr. in to check oil drive and realized the endplay top and bottom not bearing wear seems big. Is there a meas. for this, it is an HEI stock distr. and right now it is about .040+ plus up and down play. I know jegs or summit has shims, I was thinking this should be around .005- .010., is this correct ?All info appreciatted TIA

Go with your gut. You are right. I set mine at .008". The HEI and all GM OE distributers have always been sloppy.

I figured with that much slop, the timing would be moving some, and I want this thing right, have to much time in it to not make that right as well. Ill be calling summit in the morn. maybe by tue. or wed. I'll be able to fire it !!
PS: just thought about it, haven;t pulled the gear yet, do you know if it is .500 shaft dia.?
