Right now i have the stock air filter and stuff on my 1984 vette, A friend of mine was telling me how i could cut out a hole in front on the bottom of my hood and put a k&n filter there, and remove the stock filter, i was wondering if this would be any better? if so do you think you could maybe explain it a little better?
not to sure where you would cut the hole? The way I understand it the the air moves through the spoiler in the front then up to the duct work thats built into the hood. What advantage would you have by installing a new filter there rather than having the filter located where it already is? Its possible that I'm just not understanding. But I will tell you what I did with mine, I removed the orginal spoiler and put in one from Greenwood. then installed a hood scoop, the nostrils ended up falling right into place with the duct work to allow more air flow to the engine. cost me a little but it was worth it.
Well you would cut right where the air comes in from the duct, way in front of the hood there is a rectangle thing there that looks like it could be cut out... Yeah i didnt think it would be differnt either... How much did you spend on the spoiler and hood scoop?
It gets expensive, the whole kit alone cost me $1400 and then the installation cost another $3500. I got robbed though. If you look at my gallery I will say they did an awesome job. So it doesn't really bother me how much I spent. If you just want to get the scoop only you can get it for $400 or so. But it will only come primed not painted
All you do is to cut a mating hole in the Radiator housing adjacent the rectangular air intake in the front of your hood.Seal it with Weatherstripping so it's sealed when hood is closed.Really gets the Cool Air in there.
CAJUN C4,
not to get totally off topic but I have to ask. Did you notice a differance after installing the x-ram. I've been debating whether to do it or not. let me know what you think off it, and any advice you may have. thanks

Seeing as it's a 84--- under the hood by ( toward the front of) the radiator you have a long oval hole( glue some medium density foam around it) thats the opening for the duct work to the air filter cover.Directly under this hole is the top of radiator cover in front of your useless lug wrench cut a hole like this or one matching the oval(I think mine is stronger)
(yes I have the foam and the 5 rivets-- don't have the car back yet)
I know it works I drove 1 week before I installed the hard ware cloth ( home depot) I found 2 maple leaves on the air filter :

Cost = $3.18 for self adhesive weather stripping.
I am STILL waiting for evidence that the X-Ram is more effective than my home ported stock manifold.
You guys taught me something that I didn't know.. and here I spent all this other money doing the same things that you accomplished for only a few bucks. good information
You have to cut the mating hole in the radiator upper air baffle, first. Then it is just a thin strip of self adhesive weather stripping to keep the air from leaking.
