I just signed on here tody and am amazed by how many posts and replies there are!! Anyway 6 year owner of a 1993 lt1 whose spec sheet says I had/have a 2.59, the carrier says 2.73 and the previous owner told me 3.80. So how do I determine the present ratio. If it's
by turning the tire and counting the driveshaft, the shaft turns just about 3 and 3/4 turns for 1 turn of the tire. Its' getting noisy back there maybe more so than just the diff, but all in good time.

If you're getting 3 & 3/4 turns of the driveshaft to a single turn of the halfshafts, it's definitely not 2.59 or 2.73. Should be very close to what the previous owner told you.
Surest way to determine it is to count the teeth on both the ring and pinion gears, but that, of course, requires that you have the case open.
