I had this tranny rebuilt 7 months ago by a reputable guy. It has eaten ANOTHER governor gear. He used the green gear on the rebuild, and it has worked fine until yesterday. It would'nt shift until I got the rpm way up. Then it settled down after it warmed up. On the way home from work last night,if I got on it at all it seemed to try to upshift all the way to first. Called the tranny guy he said the gear is gone. Any ideas as to why it keeps eating these gears?? HE told me to drive it like I stole it ..... so I do, but I would have anyway..

Same thing happened to me. And the n the problem stopped immediately!!
After I added a pint of LubeGard from NAPA. Most of the Cf will recommend you use the black bottle. I added the red bottle. There is also a simular product from PepBoys in a blue bottle.
Once the red was added I noticed an immediate smoothness in the transmission shifts and when changing gears.
The plastic gear can (believe it or not) wear and booger up the output shaft, where the gear rides. Also, proper end play on the gear is a must!
You tweak the end play by carefully denting the gov cover while measuring the end play. If I were a betting man, I would put my money on too much endplay.
