Default exhaust manifolds

Hello,

I've tried to do some searching to answer my questions that way, but search appears to have been down the last day or two, so I'm going to risk this being discussed already and hope that someone has some details for me.

I have a bit of a non-standard L98 installation going on, and space is at a premium. Currently I have a set of hot-rod style block-hugger headers, but I haven't installed them yet, and I'm still on the lookout for better options. The stock C4 tubular exhaust manifolds seem like a good alternative, but I don't really know much about themew. Does anyone know how they flow? What size are the primaries? What level of power can they support? Are there difference in the size/flow/hp level of the Gen 1 manifolds through the years? How about the later LT1 manifolds? Are the tubular manifolds any quieter than a short header?

The rest of the engine should be good for a solid 420 or so hp (AFR heads, LT4 hot cam, LT1 intake), I know the stock manifolds probably aren't optimum for maximum power, but neither are the block huggers really, and I'm hoping that a factory manifold will be a little quieter.

Thanks for any help/input!

Does your L98 have the Al heads or the iron ones?

he said he's running the afr heads and an lt1 intake, so i am assuming they are aluminum. at approx 420 hp, he probably needs to bite the bullit and get a good set of headers or the exhaust will choke that motor down pretty good. i took my stock manifolds and opened up the ports and had them jet hot coated, they made a difference to my stock motor, but not like the headers did.

Oops, when all else fails - actually read the post ...

That recent thread about shorties vs long tubes reminded me
about JBA's headers. The numbers in the test(s) were interesting.
I wonder if a set of these would fit/provide satisfactory results.

Edit:
Man, you folks that complain about the CF Search Engine
whatever the faults (and it works well enough for me) it sure beats
finding stuff manually
Anyway, the thread mentioned above is this one.
Scroll down a bit and look for posts and links by 'Steve9899'.

from what i remember about shorty's was, that they didn't improve that much over stock. i think jb666 had something to do with it. seems there is a conflict which tube is better, the 1 5/8 or the 1 3/4, every one has their own opinion on the subject.
