Default Magnaflow muffler input please

I have stock Cats (which I think need changing) and an unrestricted dual 3" flow though system on my 94 right now. The "muffler" is an empty mixing chamber with dual 3" in and dual 3" out, it looks custom made and even the muffler shop siad it is hollow. The resonators are absolutely flow through as well, no baffles or glass packs inside. The car is too loud inside and outside.

I have bought a Magnaflow muffler with dual 3" in and dual 3" out, part #12469. It is flow through, but with glass packs inside. Is this going to be enough to make the inside of the car bearable? Should I put an actual muffler on? HP is not an issue with this car as it is supercharged and lots more power than I really need or want.

If I install this muffler and it does not do the job, then I will have to deal with the resonators and more $.

Opinions please.

Im not real clear on what you are doing. The 12469 is dual 3in in and out. Are you somehow using them in place of the mufflers or are you using it as a resanator? One other thing, since you have the 12469 is it a tru-x design? (built with a x pipe in the muffler)

Currently the exhaust goes in to what would looks like a muffler after the Cats, dual 3" in and dual 3" out. But I believe it is empty inside, no baffles, X pipe or packing and it is not doing any muffling at all. I can't look in, but when tapping on it, it sounds hollow and does not see to have any thing in it.

Then the pipes go off to the resonators at the back. The resonators each have one 3" in and then inside it splits to two 2.5" pipes with what appears to be screening and maybe packing around it the screening. They are a clear flow through resonator where the two inside pipes meet at the end and feed a 2.5"x 7" square tip.

It sounds great outside the car, but barely passed the city test and I', told I'm likely going it get sent back by police for inspection. Plus, inside the car the "drone" it is too loud.

I don't know what the stock system is like at all so I hope I explained it OK.

The stock system has the cats on the end of the manifolds. Then it comes down with dual 2&3/4 pipe to a resonator behind the transmission, then to 2 mufflers at the rear. Magnaflow makes a set of mufflers with tips etc. made for the vette. This may be what you are after. But one of the biggest complaints with all aftermarket exhaust (except Corsa) seems to be resonance and exspecially with the coupe's.
I have played with different exhaust configurations. From stock, to headers,no cats and stock all the way back. Eliminating the resonator and installing the bullet cats where the factory resonator was. And finally headers through stock exhaust, no cats, and magnaflow mufflers out back. My next step is going to be change the stock resonator to the magnaflow (12469) But I got to tell you, I have not seen any significant difference with any of these configurations.
Assuming you have long tube headers, you may want to consider finding a factory stock system. Its very easy to make the two pipes to reconnect from the headers to the exhaust system. They flow very well and can be had for less then $100.00 This will take care of the resonance you are having and hurt power very little if any. The biggest reason most people change the LT1-4 exhaust is for sound.

What I am calling the muffler and resonator/s is opposite of what you are calling them. I guess I'll put the Magnaflow on and if still too loud, do something for mufflers at the bumper.

I was hoping someone has the #12469 Magnaflow resonator just after the Cats with flow through resonators at the bumper and can tell me how it sounds in the car.

Well if you do end up actually putting mufflers on the rear, consider these, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...spagenameZWDVW
Now I have been told that you can get them for about $350.00 Do a search on this forum for magnaflow and I remember seeing post saying that they are negotiable.
Also they have a 3in pipe out the back that is reduced down to the 2&3/4 to slip on the orig. system. It shouldnt be hard to cut that 2in section off and run to your existing 3in system.
