I would like to replace my distributor on my 1989 Corvette and looked in the Summit and JEG'S catalog finding 3 that I am considering but before ordering would like to poll the forum for advice. I called Summit and the model they said would fit my car had a vacuum can hanging out the side. When asked if they made a computer controlled model they said that the company only offered small cap vacuum controlled. I am looking at an HEI Accell high performance model for $139.99, Pertronix Flame Thrower HEI 219.99 and a Proform HEI for 159.99. What puzzles me is they all show a pictures with vacuum cans hanging off the side and don't trust the customer service depts. of either company. Any help would be appreciated.

Not to be rude, why do you feel the need to change yours? I dont see any performance benefits at all by changing the distributor out, even if the old one is bad.You can get an exact replacement or have yours rebuilt, etc.
Ive always been wary of certain aftermarket parts. You just cant go wrong with the stock system. With aftermarket ignition parts and etc, there can be problems with fitment, install and making it work or getting the right parts at times!
The reason I was considering a change was because of an intermittent ignition problem which might me caused by either the coil, pickup or module. It might be cheaper and less work especially if I change the pickup going with a replacement. By the way I called up Petronix, Proform and Accel and none of them make a replacement high performance distributer replacement for the L98 TPI in the 89 Vette. Looks like I will be playing the parts change out game.
