Default Alarm problems

Hi,

I have a problem with fitting a remote start to a 1990 Convertible. the remote start will only try and start fo about 4 seconds then stop. then it wont let you start the car with the key untill the alarm has reset itself. does anyone have any idea what the problem might be

Does the car actually start and run for 4 seconds and shut off? OR does it crank for 4 seconds without starting the car? The VATS bypass modules, used in remote starts, are know for drifting when it is cold.

I can't speak to the other brands. I have been doing a lot of research into remote starts. I had one installed in my other car and am having problems . I think most of my problems are with the poor installation I got. The installer, by looking at the nest of wires, did a poor job on the connections and I think this the problem. As far as your car not starting. What did you use to bypass the vats?

Someone has just mentioned to me that there is a chip in the key and you need to disarm the diode in the key by fitting 1 under the dash somehwere. does that make any sense to anyone??

Just got off the phone with the installer. If you leave the key in the ignition the remote start works, so how do we bypass the key chip

They have modules that you can install to bypass this. Some people get a resistor the same value as the pellet in their key and hard wire it to the ignition switch. Using the resistor method bypasses the security permanently. Using the module like ones from DEI will only bypass the security when remote start is active.

Just a quick google turned this up...I don't know anything about the company, but this should work. You might even try ebay or a local circuit city or best buy. I know they carry them also.
