On my 86 vette my oil temp read-out gauge reads low all the time my oil pressure reads fine though. Were is the oil temp gauge sending unit located and is it hard to change?
Sender resistance increases with pressure so a grounded circuit (no resistance) will give you LO at all times. Sender is to the left of the distributor. You want the tan wire which goes to A2 in the Bulk Head Connector behind the Battery and from there, to Pin C1 at the cluster. Check it for a short to ground. Or get a 90 ohm resistor at Radio Shack at place one end on the Tan Wire and the other to Ground. If the Cluster shows 80 PSI the wiring and Cluster are good.
If your sending unit needs to be replaced, let me know. I have a new one that I ordered in error (mine takes a 3 wire connector, earlier years take the one wire) and of course electrical items can't be returned. I'm on vacation though till the middle of next week, after that if you want it, you can have it for $5.00 to cover shipping. I'll post the part number when get home.
Oops! My mistake - thought you meant the pressure sender. Temp works the opposite. Higher the temp, lower the resistance. Green/White to ground at the sender should give you max temp. Disconnected or open LO.
Trog, if takovr won't take you up on the temp sensor I will. Let me know. If he takes it and you have the part number that will help too.
Thanks,
Woody
