I replaced the fuel pump and sender on my 87 vette. I got a tremendous increase in fuel ecomony from 20 mpg to 25! The only problem is the car is verry dificult to start once its hot. My Haynes manuel says to check the fuel pump relay but doesnt tell where it is. Anyone help me here?
Does the fuel pump run for 2 seconds when you turn the key from "off" to "on"? If so, consider your fuel pump relay, "checked". If you don't have the fuel pump running for 2 seconds, when the key is switched on, trouble shoot the relay. It is high on the engine side of the firewall in about the center of the car. Otherwise, chances are you have injectors leaking and flooding the engine.

RACE ON!!!
thanks for the info. I'll try out those ideas and let you know how they worked.
The fuel pump relay is next to the widshield wiper motor and is attached to the firewall. If your car is a manual (4+3) tranny, the tranny OD relay sits directly in front of the fuel pump relay. The relays are the same.
Toss the Haynes manual in the trash and get the GM Service Manual from Helm. Go to www.helminc.com and order the manuals for your year. You can also find manuals on eBay or in the various Corvette accessory catalogs. If you buy used, make sure you get the manuals with the red covers. White-covers are preliminary manuals and may not have all of the correct information for the particular model year.
There are excellent trouble-shooting procedures along with pics of component locations. Well worth the money.
You said " the car is difficult to start once it's hot", which leads to to think you MAY have an other problem. Like CFI said, if you turn the key on and you hear the fuel pump priming-then the relay is good. You may want to check the injectors for leak down-if you have a leaky injector(s) the motor is flooding-which may not show up on the cold start.
With The Advice Given In The Forum I Was Able To Find And Replace The Relay. Ive Owned The Car A Year And Have Never Heard The Pump Run Befor With The Switch On. It Starts Fine Hot Or Cold Now. Again Thanks For All The Good Advice.
