Default Charging issue thoughts

Just swapped the starter motor in my '88. My car has the gear reduction starter. The voltage on the gauge has increased by a couple of tenths of a volt. On the starter there is the ignition lead. the hot lead from the battery and with the battery lead is smaller lead which I'm guessing may go to the hot lead on the alternator. So it may be worth checking the leads on your starter if your charge voltage seems low.

Not at all unusual for an older car to get more resistance in the circuits whether at a connection or even the wires themselves. This is why when you check charging output you should always check it at the alternator and at the battery and compare the difference. It should not be much. And yes your charging circuit does pass through the large (battery) connection at the starter.

There should be only 2 hot wires on your starter, a large wire to the starter motor and the smaller starter solenoid wire. No wire comes from the alternator, the alternator output wire goes to the jump start terminal behind the battery.

JFB, that is why I noted that I have the gear reduction starter. It does have three wires. This started in 1988.
