Default IC Project Moving Along

Well since today was Thanksgiving, and my family was all gone to the in-laws and there was nothing open for business, I had about 16 straight hours of work.

I worked till dusk on the garage addition project, then moved to the IC. Many of you have seen the large by huge core when I started this project. Well the IC is now fitting properly "around the radiator".

The first couple of pics show the IC when originally designed and welded up.

The next pics show the modified radiator case.

The last set of pics shows the IC and radiator assy merried together.

The beauty of this set-up is that it still allows use of the many aftermarket radiators for the Vette, the factory cooling fan (the front fan with HD cooling is gone), and mounts using the original radiator case holdown. It also eliminates all of the funky bends that ATI and Vortech utilize. It uses a single 3" oval feed pipe that mounts behind the cooling fan and a simple 3.5 x 4.5" bell directly into the TB on the intake. I am hoping to pick up a couple of psi from just ditching the Spearco and all of the front mount IC piping.

I still have yet to pull 'ol Yeller apart for this IC. I plan to wait until everything is perfect and the IC install is simply a "drop-in" job. I hate to not have the cars running.

Man they fit together like it was a stock option. Nice job!

I am stuck here at work today so nothing is getting accomplished over my way.

The need to complete this has become more urgent, as the cooling fan on my '87 died on the way home this evening. The coolant temp went from normal 175°F up to 230°F when I shut down in the garage. Even on the highway travelling 70 MPH, it would not drop down to 175°F.

I hate to spend more time keeping the old package up by pouring money into it, when the new IC assy is sitting on the garage floor.
