They already do... it's called "Toyota" or "Honda."
I know they have their issues, but jeez... they don't have the issues the average American car has.

I think the trick is to keep the coolant fresh.
I changed the heater core in a friends' moms 1981 Escort. It took all of 20 minutes.
Those old Escort heater cores were SO easy. Like changing a computer card! By the way Bogus aren't you still supposed to be 'honeymooning' ? Whatcha doing out there working on the car?

Hell, I have had computer cards more annoying than that heater core!!!
sadly, with our work schedules, I take the time when I can.

that does make me feel better!
I usually flush my cooling system every 2 or 3 years, but I bought the car with 60K miles, and I don't know the history....
heh heh...so Ford actually did something right!!! 20 minutes to exchange a heater core...that is awesome!!!!! ( I diss Ford alot, but I actually bought both my kids Mustangs, and they have been very reliable cars)
At least four separate auto parts counter jockeys told me the exact same phrase while I was in the midst of my motor re-do last month.
"Welcome to the world of Corvettes."
The ridiculous parts I'd have to order and the ridiculous prices for said parts are legendary.
Once, when I went to the Chevy dealer to pick up a part (I think it was a PS hose that time), I acted surprised (jokingly, of course) that it wasn't in stock. He took offense and went on a tirade about how it was certainly not something that they would carry, as my car was "3 generations old now" and likened it to some beater Escort (with an easy to change heater core, of course).

I changed a heater core on my cousin's 1980-82? mustang (w/ ac option)
God that sucked, and took about 5 hours. It was also about 25 degrees in the garage where I was working. Only good thing, was that it was his p.o.s. car, so I wasn't too worried about breaking anything or misplacing bolts.

I'm sure his '88 Grand Am is much nicer.
I would have told that *** wipe where to shove that hose... moron.
I bet the parts for his are in stock. Why would you be surprised about them not having parts in stock for a 15-20 year old low production model?
I dunno where you got the beater ford escort notion from. Repair parts for those are probably widely available too.
Feeling argumentative today, Coaster? I certainly did not expect them to be in stock, which is why in my other post I said "jokingly, of course" after that statement. I was being friendly and got snapped at as a result. More importantly, the annoyance wasn't the fact that the hose wasn't immediately available as much as it was his implications that I should be thankful that parts exist at all for such an old beater.
I've worked on Corvettes long enough to know that virtually no one stocks parts for them that aren't common to multiple vehicles and move quickly off the shelf.
I guess you had to be there for the whole conversation. In the future I'll refrain from sharing anecdotes that others might find humorous unless there is no possible way that they can be misunderstood.

No beef, I only posted that because it sounded like you were irked over it. I hate to see someone in a bad mood for a bad reason.
Nope, I just personally hate you because it's probably quite warm where you are, and here it's in the 20's and I can only work on my stupid ECM problems for about 20 minutes at a time before my hands go numb
