Default Turnsignal problem..........

Ive got a problem with my 84.The left signal is dead.the bulb is fine and it will flash with the hazard lights. With the lights off I can work it manually by hand up-down at the column but when I turn on the lights the left indicator in the dash is lit,no parking light in the front but taillights in the rear but with the lights on it wont do anything. It cant be the flasher, they flash with the hazards.Im think headlight switch or TS switch.Thanks.

if I remember rightly, the turnsignals are a different circuit then the hazards. The hazards actually light up the brake bulbs.

dbl check the flashers.

There are separate flashers for the turn signals and the hazard lamps. Do the turn signals work on the right side?? If they don't work there either, I would suspect a bad turn signal flasher.

If the right side works, it may be the turn signal switch on the steering column.

How about the rear left side bulbs? Do both rear bulbs flash with the hazard flasher or with the brake lamps? The flasher works from the load resistance in the circuit. Take a bulb away and the load decreases and the flasher doesn't get enough heat generated on the metal contacts and won't flash.

Check all your bulbs. A bad bulb can cause this. If i remember correctly, I had a bad license plate bulb causing the exact same thing. Hazards worked but no signal on that side.

Also the blinker i bought at pep boys SUCKS. It's noisy, you can hear it clicking inside the dash. If you do need a new blinker, buy from the dealer perhaps.

You may have a broken wire in the column. Try tilting to different positions and see if you can get it to work. Thats how I found the problem in mine.

For a permanent fix, you will probably have to get a new socket and splice it into the wiring harness that feeds that socket.

Good luck,
