How tough to repair/replace the power steering pump on a '91? Not leaking but starting to whine like Rusty Wallace getting passed by the Hendricks Crowd
Before you replace I would recommend putting in some of the Lucas' power steering mender. That stuff is quite amazing and has increased the life of my steering rack and pump by >60K miles. Worst case is that it doesn't work and you are out $6.

You might also consider Amzoil synthetic auto tranny fluid...but you will need to get all the old fluid out. It can be removed with a "turkey baster" or an old fashioned battery syringe. It takes three or four flush/fills to get all the old stuff out. Start the engine and turn the wheels between flush/fills
These pumps do "sing" at high RPM...mine has been doing it for years at 3000 plus rpm with no apparent damage
I was ready to post this question when you beat me to it. Two mornings ago, I backed out the driveway and my steering wheel didn't even want to move. I jerked it back and forth a couple of times and freed it up. This morning it worked, but I can definately hear noise. This is an LT1 and it looks like a PITA to change.
On my 86 , Ive changed it 3 times, not sure if it is the same but probably similar. I have to take off the alternator, and smog pump then it comes out fairly easily. I do change the ps oil every oil change sucking the old out.
