3/8" studs, unless someone changed them.

Correct, but I believe the part that screws into the head is 7/16" so it might be a good time to upgrade to 7/16" studs. You'll be getting rockers anyway and there really isn't much (if any) of a price difference between 3/8" and 7/16" ones. 7/16" studs are relatively cheap and it's an easy way to strengthen your valvetrain, especially at high rpms.

7/16" studs are way more ridgid than the 3/8's. and if you decide to run a stud girdle, that would also not be a problem.

The subject title says, "`90 l98 3/8 or 7/16 studs", but no C4 came with 2.02" intake valve, heads. Late model (and most) iron heads came with pressed in 3/8" studs. Many HiPo heads, like those with 2.02 valves from the '60s came with 3/8", screw in studs. I am not aware of Chevy ever using a 7/16" stud in any small block head. As noted above, by others, SBC screw in studs, all of which are 3/8", have 7/16" threads on the head end. Figure out what you are dealing with and act accordingly.

RACE ON!!!

Indeed. But not with 2.02 heads. I had written the response as though it might not be a C4, because the year wasn't in the post. After I clicked "Reply" I saw the title to the thread, with the year. I was out of time and I tried to do a "quick save". Maybe it wasn't as graceful as it could have been.

RACE ON!!!

i knew that the c4's never came with 2.02 heads, but i was giving the guy the benefit of the doubt that he did'nt know that much about motors and some other air head told him he had them. he was also asking about what size studs he had, which is also a clue that he may be a newb to the vette world and modifications. but his avator shows a superram top end, did he install it along with aftermarket heads which are for the 90 and he refers to them as stock, or were they on the car when he purchased it?

i'm thinking either aftermarket heads, or they're stock '90 113's that were ported and professionally worked over. hard to tell, so i say he'll have to pull the valve covers to find out about the studs.

Pull a valve cover; if you see #113 the valves are 1.94"/1.50" if stock.
The studs are 3/8" at the rockers with 7/16" at the threads.
Under the studs are non-hardened guide plates.

For these reasons I prefer to go with non self-aligning RRs and install hardened guide plates & push rods with 7/16" studs. The overall price is about the same as with self-aligning RRs and you need to pull the stock guide plates anyhow.
