I needed a MAF Sensor for my '87. I bought a new Micro-Tech Model 49-1018 unit (same as one advertised by Mid-America). Problem is that it doesn't fit inside the front air duct coming from the air filter. The front of the unit seems to be "out of round". Horizontal diameter is ok; vertical diameter is too large to fit. The duct and the original unit are both perfect circles. I took the Micro-Tech unit back and got another one and it's the same way. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

I had the exact same problem when I was still using my stock air intake duct. I just has to use all my arm muscles to make it fit. What a work out; it was kinda like wrestling practice. If you are too weak, then you should consider sanding the insides of the air duct and it should be a little easier to slide in place.
As an update ... I ordered (and returned) a total of three Micro-Tech MAF Sensors (pn 49-1018). All three had the same problem. They were out-of-round in the vertical axis (almost 1/16th inch too big), so they wouldn't fit into the molded air intake coming from the air filter on my '87.
The reason I kept trying was that I really wanted the Micro-Tech unit because of the Lifetime Warranty.
I even called Micro-Tech customer support about the problem, but they were unwilling to work with me. They said I'd have to go through the retail dealer, which I did ... to return the parts. But the retailer just put each of them back in stock! They would not mark them as defective. (Retailer is Advance Auto Parts aka PartsAmerica.)
Finally gave up on Micro-Tech and bought a reman unit, which fit easily and works!
I would not recommend Micro-Tech MAF Sensors to anyone. It appears their QC is not good, and the Customer Support guy was not interested (two very black marks in my book!).
Not on is Micro-tech's QC not good, but their product is a POS ..
I bought one 2 years ago to replace my blown stoch hot-wire unit on my '85, and saw they listed the same part# for all MAF C4's.. One bad thing right there. '85 uses different type signal than 86+ MAF's.. Ordered the one they said would work (even spoke to their tech department (which consisted of the actual guy who built these units (dunno how small this company is), put it on the car, car wouldn't idle for crap, sometimes wouldn't start at all.. They said it was a bad unit, got a replacement, SAME problem.. Went and bought a reman Bosch hot-wire MAF. Been working flawlessly since..
They never even fessed up to the fact their design doesn't work on the '85 model.. Bunch of aholes.... Ohh yeah Advance Auto parts (where I ordered it from originally) at first didn't even want to return the unit as I hooked it up to the car, saying it's against their return policy to take it back once on a car......
Let's just say I raised hell in the store and the manager decided it's best to give my gdamn money back.. Never buy Advance Auto again..
