I have a 1988 stock L-98 with 130,000 miles on it. Runs great with no problems and uses no oil. I am replacing the water pump and hoses and was wondering what degree thermostat you experts would recommend. Thanks for your suggestions Steve
I just put a 180 degree in mine. They like to run warm, but it's my understanding that was for better emissions. I go to the track every so often, so I wanna run a little cooler.
Guess it would ultimately depend on where you live, and if you wanna stay stock. They put that rating in there for a reason!
A thermostat change, alone, won't change the operating temp of your engine, 95% of the time it's running. A cooler stat WILL lengthen the warm up time. You say that it "Runs great with no problems and uses no oil". Do you feel an overwhelming need to fix that what ain't broke?

Cant go wrong with it there!I wouldnt go about changing stat specs if its been working good so far.
Just changed the water pump, hoses and thermostat on my '89. Used the originally spec. 195 degree thermostat. The gearheads I work with recommended staying with what the manufacturer put in the car and asked me why I would want my car to take longer getting to operating temperature.
Thanks for everyones advice on the thermostat. Will stay with the 195. Just wanted to know if anyone thought I should change from prevoius experiences with their c-4s. Didn't mean to to **** vader 86 off. Thats the way know it alls tend to be. All mouth no help. Thanks to eveyone else. This is a great forum. Especially to us 50 somethings who grew up with real muscle cars you could work on.
