Default LT4 heads, roller rockers

I got a pair of used LT4 heads with the chevy 1.6 roller rockers to put on my LT1. They do not have the push rod guide plates that my LT1 heads have with the standard rockers. Are they supposed to? Should I take them off the LT1 heads and put them on the LT4 heads anyway if they didn't?

thanks for your help guys.

Jim

Your stock heads don't have guide plates. It's just something used on the assembly line.

Neither the stock LT1 or stock LT4 rockers use guide plates.

Those are self aligning RR so you don't need guide plates. If you use guide plates you could end up breakin or bending something.

You need the guide plates with the RR, though, don't you?

I know I got most of my drivetrain from Comp Cams, cam, RR, lifters, pushrods, etc. and they included the guide plates. In fact, I had to use two plates to get the height.

You can kind of see them in this photo:

Sure look like guide plates to me. I'll try and post a picture.

Nope. Factory roller rockers are self-aligning.

Aftermarket rockers are available either way.

No need. It's a FAQ.

First thing you need to make sure what R/R's you have. THe LT4 came with differnt rockers then the GMPP part that looks very much the same. The LT4 R/R's use a 10mm tapered stud and are torque to spec, the GMPP uses a 3/8 stud that you adjust like any other rocker. THe LT4 kit sold by GMPP uses LT4 heads with 3/8 studs and the GMPP R/Rs, only the actuale LT4 heads came with the tapered stud Rollers.
Next as far as the guide plates go as stated in a previous post the LT4 rockers are SA and require no guide plates, the plates that resemble guide plates where used for assy at the factory and are not and should not be used as guide plates. I went to non SA rockers for the 383 with 7/16 studs and guide plates but that also requires hardened push rods as well.
