it can work, but you will have to either 1) drill the camber rod bracket holes to .50 for the bolts to go through, or 2) use the camber rod brackets from the 85. everything else is pretty much the same, if you are just changing out the center section or bat wing

I will be just useing the center and batwing. So just useing those would I still have to drill? I can't remember there being any holes like that in mine. It's been a few years since I had it out.

I've got an '85 D44 in mine, this is the only mod required. You don't have to go out quite a 1/2", I'll check later and give you the size.
3.07 is what should come in the 85 manuals. What you have there is 84 information.
3.07:1. is also what came in the '84 automatics. That chart(?) is a mishmash of info. It has the auto supplied with a 2.73 rear, which was NOT available in 1984 and an optional, for the manual, of 3.31, which was ONLY available in 1984 (optional for both auto or manual). To add insult to injury, the 3.31 gears were only made for the Dana 36.
Although that '85 couldn't have been built with 3.33 gears, neither could the 1993, fsr402 plans to put them in. Just because GM didn't offer it, doesn't mean someone didn't do it.

RACE ON!!!
I found a "D44 with 3.33 gears" for sale and I was checking here to make sure one that it would fit and two to make sure this was right. All I really care about is that it will fit and that it IS a D44. I'm going to swap out and have 3.73's put in anyways.
Thanks for the info though. I emailed the guy about the gears, now just waiting to hear back. I knew I could count on you guys to give me the info.
Fact: Any C4 diff will fit any other C4.
Fact: A 1985 4+3 car left the factory with a Dana 44.
Fact: The only C4 rear end available with 3.33 gears was (is) the Dana 44.
Fact: *I* think you will have no problems.
