Don't laugh, but I was wondering if there is something to clean out the cats since I'm sure that they would build up soot and stuff after 217,000 miles. Would hosing them out help? Or is there a solution that would desolve any build up? Thanks in advance, Robert Ok, you can laugh now.
I don't know how you plan to hose them - if you can drop the exhaust, you should know better then to hose your cats (unless this post was really abour well traveled felines) - but no, that will not help =) A new cat, installed - can be had for $150 in some places here in SoCal, and a dyno run is only $35 to see if you need anything!
On another site they have a thread on the correct diameter and length pipe to beat into the cats to gut them! Thank God the Cat-Miester from Kali does not frequent that site!
If it was my car and I was sweating the cats I would buy new high-flow cats to replace them, or use the BFH and pipe method!

I don't want to provide a link I like the current free flow of thoughts without the tree hugging chest beating. However, shoot me an email and I will send you the link

As far as I know they are working fine since I always pass inspections with flying colors. But I didn't know if they could be partially restricted but still working. Thanks for the replies and for the humor
If you are concerned, a qualified shop should have a tool that they thread into an O2 port to measure the backpressure from the exhaust.
I do not know what "good" #'s are or "bad" #'s, but I did have the backpressure checked by an exhaust place on my suburban and they said my cat was ok. All I can do is take their word, though.
