Default Replacement Battery

Any brand reccomendations for replacing the battery? It is at least 3 years old. I only drive in nice weather, and the car sits for extended periods of time, up to one month in the winter. So I need a reliable, good brand.

I can't give any advice as to what brand of battery to buy. The Delco in my 1990 is 8 years old! When not in use it is kept on a "Battery Tender" to maintain its charge. Seems to work!

The following web site can give you an idea as to what manufacturer is making what brands. For example, depending on the model, the Walmart "Everstart" is made by Exide, Delphi or Johnson Controls.

Every brand of battery has had both boosters and busters here on C4 tech ! My 87's 3 yr old Delco quit about a month ago (6 yr guarantee) and I went to Wallfart and bought an everstart. It will be replaced free for 3 yrs and then prorated for the remaining 2 or 3 yrs. If you want a normal long life, you must keep the battery charged and a battery tender is the best way to do that. Wallfart has them the cheapest! Lead acid batteries do not like sitting doing nothing for long periods (4+ wks).

I bought a brand new delco freedom battery for my '91 and it leaked acid out of the side facing the engine, guessed it was a faulty one-vendor wouldnt refund or exchange, so i bought another delco from a different vendor and it leaked in exactly the same place.
Both batterys only weeped acid like a dribble down the side, but after 2-3 weeks, when i noticed,it had eaten a large amount of the galve of my chassis and wrecked electrical connectors.

Never had a battery leak before,or after these two delco's.
Dont know if it was just a bad batch going round at the time, but it was a pain to clean-up/neutralise the mess.
Needless to say, I'll never buy a delco battery again.

Switched to a top up style, run the same in my '77 also-no probs at all.
