hello everyone,my idle stays around 1000rpm hot or cold.i have never seen it below 900 rpm.shouldnt it be lower?700 rpm maybe?this is my first fuel injected car(yeah i know you thought dinosaurs were extinct,we just drive old dodges),where should i start looking to remedy this?thanks in advance, george.
The tachs on the '90-'96 cars are often off by a couple hundred rpm. If there are no codes, no service engine soon light, and the car otherwise runs fine, I'd say things are fine.
You can scan it and see what the ECM is seeing - Should be +/- 100 RPMs from Targeted in Park/Neutral and/or +/- 50 RPMs in Drive. If idle is greater than these numbers, should be generating a code in the low 500's. Assuming it agrees with your TACH and you get the above, check Coolant Temp and Air Temp Signals cold (should be close to ambient) and that the Coolant Temp Signal is somewhere around the Thermostat at cruise, within range of the fans at idle - a/c off.
How many miles do you have on yours? Have you checked all the vac lines? Have you looked at the TB? It could be gummed up or worse case the shaft can have alittle wear.
