I'm looking at a dash pad on ebay which I would like to use on my 1987 coupe (complete dash top, not just a cover). I've noticed in the major supplier catalogs that most vendors list a 84/85 pad as one part number and 86 thru 89 as a differant number. The person on ebay selling the dash tells me there is no differance from 84 to 89.
Are they interchangeable with no real differance or what???
Location of front speakers i believe(some 84/85s had them in the dash)...but im not certain, i know they LOOK exactly the same, but this doesnt always mean alot... So if someone can confirm that is all, then youre right to proceed
84 and 85 do have speakers under the dash pad with grills mounted to the dash pad. I did buy mine on EBAY and it worked fine but I have an 84. Very simple to replace my only problem was that it was hard to try to matck color and paint style of the speaker covers.

My GM parts book shows the 1984-5 as a differemt part nunber. Of couse that doesn't mean that they aren't interchangable. When I replaced my heater core, I removed the IP cover and noticed that my (factory) Bose audio system had no speakers under the IP speaker grilles. My front speakers are in the doors. Possibly those grilles are used by the standard sound system. The grilles COULD be the difference in the 1986 up IP covers.
