Congratulations! Have fun in Mexico. Don't drink the water, buy "street" jewelry or play around with the Senioritas without protection!
El partido como el es 2006 !
If I did that, the salesman would have wet his pants! Didn't want to get pee in my future car. Looks like he still drives that same old tired lookin' Nissan he had last year.

A friend of mine is restoring a 1987 C4 he bought. That is the only C4 I saw here in the south in 9 years. I saw perhaps 5 or 6 newer types those years. If you take a look in Puerto Banuz, (closer were the king of Saudi Araby has his property at the coast)there are ships laying around that cost 50 - 100 milion, not strange if you se a handfull of ferrari´s and few new corvettes , a few Rolss Royces etc all in one day.
It would be a shame if somehow an owner did show up one day and
successfully claimed the car.
Since Nico has been granted a proper registration and the authorities
are satisfied for now, would he be in the clear if he decided he didn't
want to deal with the possibility of losing the car and instead chose
to sell it and find a replacement C4 with a less dramatic history?

I am in the clear, I did do everything to find out. I have the prove of the governemant that did supply the papers where you can find that I did report properly and complete. The state that the car had at the moment of import was economical total loss, so if stolen, 10 years ago or so. They have to prove in court that it is indeed their car and they have to fight the vendor who will claim that he legally bought it. He is the importer of the car and by than it had the other number. If they can prove, I lose the car and I can reclaim my mony from the vendor, but this is a long process. I can sell without problems, but I LOVE IT. And it is difficult here to buy a similar car with the quality it has by now, so I have to import again. (You have one for sale?)

What a great chirstmas present to you nico, all the hard work paid off and now you have a beautiful corvette to enjoy for the rest of your life, and not to mention a lot of corvette friends you never knew about!
I work for a Spanish company here in the U.S. so I know what its like to get something done in Spain . I'm surprised the motor vehicle office wasn't on vacation or closed for a holiday .
Take out your new ride and head down the coast to Gibralter. ENJOY the drive along the coast.

Having grown up in South America and lived a while in Spain and still having kids and an ex-wife there and the legal stuff that goes with that I know that doing things in Spain can be very frustrating or very easy depending on if you get the right person on the right day at the right time or if you get the wrong person on the wrong day at the wrong time. Also having a freind in the right place or a little extra money or something the official is interested in, like a similar hobby or maybe offering a ride in your vette can make all the difference in getting something done or not. When I was living there I had a 427 Camaro geared for 200mph and the cops would stop me just to look at the engine, they were pleasant but could turn on you if you didn't show them the respect they demanded. You could get away with a lot there, I got three photo tickets one trip for speeding, I usually cruised at 120+mph (200km/h) on the autopistas and was know for really moving through some of the local highways but I had a friend that took care of them for me. He was handy for a lot of little problems that came up. I really enjoyed it over there and still get over every year, usually around the time of the MotoGP race in Jerez, good timing....
