OK guys if you remember from yesterday we had a car towed (C4 91) because the left front was locking up. I got the tire and such off, it appears the pin that holds the caliper in at the bottom was lost? this caused a catastrophic failure and the locking wheel. So moving on do I just buy a new pin? How does it fit in there? I tried to look off the other side but only have the one wheel off, I have bought new pads already, just need advice maybe on how this front assembly should go back toghether.
I have done brakes before just always ones that bolted to the caliper bracket this whole pin thing is new to me, any help is appreciated as always!
I am with Bogus, I would check and make sure nothing is bent. As far as install you just line up the holes and the pin slides thru, and you lock it in place with the clip. I assume thats what was missing on your car. It was designed to be very easy and quick. It takes longer to get the wheels off than it does to replace the pads.
I don't have reference material for a 1991, but when I had a similar problem, it was the bolt (there are 2, an upper and a lower) that bolts the caliper bracket to the knuckle that fell out. The caliper pivoted on the remaining bolt and wedged itself into the I.D. of the wheel, and locked it up. All that had to be done, was to swing the caliper back into position and replace the bolt (with Loc-tite applied) and tighten (with Loc-tite) the other bolt.
CFI has it right on this is how the wheel locked, the brackets are still solid, but the caliper swumng out and caugt on the inner wheel to lock it up, mostly only chewed up the fins on top a little bit.
I was over 800 miles from home on my way to the 2000 NHRA Division 7 Bracket finals at the then Sears Point Raceway (Infineon, today) when my right front wheel locked up at the bottom of the Interstate ramp at Vallejo, California. I backed up and got the wheel unlocked and headed for the nearest repair shop. To make an interesting story short, they replaced the bolt and sent me on my way. A couple of days later, I won my first Wally.
Anyone have the part numbers for said pins and clips? I would really appreciate it!
Thought I HAD it.

On my car is was plain hardware; a metric bolt, M12 X 1.75 X 40. My 1984 to 1990 parts book only shows the part number, not the dimensions on the 1985 to 1990 cars. It shows the pins and clips, too, but of course nothing for the 1991.

RACE ON!!!
the 1988 to 1996 front brakes were all interchangeable. So whatever dimensions exist for 1990 would apply.
Great great stuff guys, I did the other side tonight so I got a good idea of how it is SUPPOSED to work as opposed to the let's say incomplete side, I will try to tackle the pin search tommorrow, does it matter which direction the pin is put in? I just noticed it is a bit hard to get the e clip out with it being on the inside, though after swapping the pads I put it back the way I found it!
Called superior what incredible service, they actually took the time to find the part number instead of feeding me the bs about an all new caliper, They gave me the p/n and I went to the local dealer, you can imagine their surprise when they saw these pieces actually existed HAHA.
