TomZwheels is running what seems to be a super deal on wheels. 17X9.5 and a combo of 17x9.5 and 18x11. These have an offset that is not correct for my 85. Is there a down side to running either of these sets on an 85 using spacers?
What offset are they? If they are a large offset like 65mm than you are going to need a rather large adapter not spacer. Spacers are BAD! I'm sure you mean adapter anyway but for my 18 x 9.5 C5 Y2K wheels I'm running an 1.25" adapter and the fit is right to the fender. No problems at all and they look nice being a billet aluminum peice.

Only if they are so thick that they reduce lug nut engagement to less than minimums.
I have run spacers up to 1/4" thick without having issues (not on the Corvette).
Of course, the best answer is to buy good wheels with the proper offset. I'm sure no one will argue with that...
I bought a set of 17x9.5 fronts and 17x11 for the rear. I think my 85 needed a 36 mm offset. I just told them I wanted the ZR-1 wheels and they fixed me up. I'm very happy with the wheels. I didnt want to run spacers because you have double the contacts to keep tight. By that I mean you have to mount the spacer to the hub, then mount the wheel to the spacer. Might be no big deal, but I didnt want to have to worry about it.
36mm is the correct offset for the 85. Unfortunately to get this offset the price of the package goes up by more thn $200. Maybe I am penny wise and pound foolish. Got to think about this some more.
