Anyone rebuilt their posi unit?
I think I need to think about freshening up my posi unit. I'm getting significantly more wear on the right rear tire. Anyone know where to get parts to freshen it up? I did a web search but didn't have much luck finding a kit, parts, etc. My rear is an '85 D44, BTW. Thanks.
I just did the same post a couple weeks ago. Did a Google. Not much luck. Went to the Super Sunday swap meet in Indy and Ikerds had a nice display. I had a talk with the rep. (pat, I think) Even though they dont list it on their site or the catalog, they do sell the clutch pack. My D36 kit was $100 delivered in 2 days. Great people. Call 812-279-4828.

Cool. All I could find was rebuilt spools in the $400 range. I hate to pay that much for something I can do myself.
Doesn't the D44/D36 require some specialized tools to work on? I swear I recall something about needing a 'case spreader' or somesuch... Or can you rebuild it without pulling the whole diff?

I feel the same. I also prefer not to change the ring/pinion set-up. At 112 k miles they may not take to a change.
I also just found the business card. Pat Ikerd was the rep. He knows his stuff. They have been in the Vette business forever.

No, the third member will have to come out. Yes, A case spreader is called for. If it's indeed needed, I can fab one easily enough.
Call Randy's ring and pinion. (do a search online for #)They sell rebuilt clutch kits for around $150, but for around $250 I bought a complete dana posi last year. They sell all rear parts and have most in stock. Great to deal with and very fast shippment. The way i was going through rear parts they helped a bunch.
Check with your favorite truck parts supplier that displays the Dana or Spicer logo. Chances are they handle the "light axle" line of parts. Otherwise a 4X4 shop that does a lot of diff work may be a Dana distributor.
Locally, you can check with Driveline Specialties in Monroe. PH 704-282-0304 They have my D44 for a total rebuild and re-gearing now. Great guys and prices seem to be OK. I took the cowards way out of this one and had them do the whole works
