Default F.A.S.T. Tuning

Anyone out there using the FAST system on an LT1? Preferrably running an LT4 hot cam kit or even just the LT4 hot cam itself. I'm looking for a calibration file to get me started on the tuning. I would really appreciate anything that would point me in the direction of something that would save me a lot of hours. I'm mostly looking to just get it close becuase a lot of this is a little over my head right now. After I get it decent, I'll take it to a good tuner to do the fine tuning.

hello ncider

If you would like you can send me the gct file you have loaded into the ecu and a recent log file and I can steer you in the right direction.

Why would you go through the trouble of putting a FAST system on a basicaly stock LT1 engine? That's extreme overkill, the stock computer can easily handle a cam upgrade with a flash. I've done quite a bit of FAST tuning and it is VERY in depth, if you have not tuned a car before this is not how you want to start unless you have someone sitting right next to you that has done it quite a bit to help you out. But again, unless you're running forced induction, or a very purpose built race engine the FAST system is really unnecessary...

Chris, I appreciate you're offer and I'll probably take you up on that. I'm just now getting it all put on so it might be another week or so. I'm originally from Atlanta, and I should be headed that way sometime in the spring. It might turn out to be a good idea to bring my car along and come see you. Thanks.

As for the other guy. I still don't understand why people like you insist on posting comments when you have nothing beneficial to add. Don't you think that before I went out and spent 2 grand on the system that I checked into it? Also, sucks for me to find out that despite all the money I've spent, on h-beam rods, forged aluminum pistons, cam, heads, intake, and the only thing being original left in my engine is the crankshaft, I still have a "basically stock engine". Guess it doesn't count unless I add another 33 cui. You really shouldn't make so many assumptions. Maybe next time you should ask if I have any plans for a blower. As far as the tuning goes, I do understand a good bit of it. I may not be experienced with the FAST system, but there's only one way to learn. Reading posts on the forum from guys like you telling me about how much experience they have doesn't help me or anyone else unless you're willing to pass some of it along.

I didn't take the previous post quite as seriously as you did. When you mention the "Hot cam" around here, that's a pretty common upgrade and I think a lot of us would not consider that very radical. Combined with the stock cubes, I think Zix's point is that the FAST system is more complicated (and powerful) than what is necessary for the setup you described.

I understand you have bigger and better plans in the future - but I wouldn't take his post so personnaly. However, with that said... if you plan on taking the car to a professional tuner anyway, why not go ahead and do it now? You'd save a lot of trial and error (and frustration) in the process. But I guess you didn't buy the FAST system just to have somebody else do it, huh?

I use the OEM software so unfortunately I can't help you out, but good luck with the learning curve as I'm sure there are plenty of nuances to that system. But shoot, I can't see anything being worse to understand than the GM software... You might also want to check out www.thirdgen.org and search their message boards. They're heavy into other ECMs and using the OEM software, but you will probably get more timely and detailed responses than the relatively "small" tuner crowd over here (my experience). Probably more guys running the FAST system over there to boot.
