Default Running Temperature creep....

The running temp of my C4 used to be 193F. Over several years, the termperature has creeped up to where it now runs at 207F. I have flushed the system and replaced water pump (when I did the distributor). I have changed the thermostat to a 180, and it ran 7F cooler at 200F.

Common sense tells me this is the temperature sending unit on the water pump, but at the same time this seems to simple. Maybe I need a new radiator? Before I drain the fluid and replace the temp sending unit, I thought I would ask if anyone has encountered a similar problem and if this is normal? Recommendations?

You didn't mention if you cleaned out the area between the radiator and condensor? That area seems to trap a lot of debris.

Yeah, that is a very difficult area to clean, but I did spray that area very well with a hose. Several years ago a plastic shopping bag got sucked up into that gap, and it caused my car to overheat.

What problem? Certainly not running at 207°, I hope?

Since you changed the water pump when you changed the distributor, and you have a temp sending unit in your water pump, I have to guess that you probably have a GEN II engine. The 180° thermostat is stock in the C4s with, LTx engines.

Really? I bought my car brand new in 1992, and I remember it always ran at 193F? It now runs at 207F with the original thermostat.

Pull the radiator and be done with it. Garden hose while it is in place won't cut it...

Most people would be tickled pink with those low temps. 207* is what, half-way on your analog gauge?

I see nothing wrong with running at 207 degrees.
Kinda crazy to think you need a new radiator.

On an LT engine an indicated 193 would be pretty normal for a 180 stat when running down the highway. 207 is certainly in the normal ok range to be running.......the new stat should have restored it back to normal.....since it didn't I agree with others that you need to carefully clean the radiator....anyhow changes always stimulate interest as to why....

What seems to have changed with mine is that when new there was either no or maybe 1-2 degrees increase in temp when running the A/C in summer.....now it seems to increase the temp by as much as 4-5 degrees...

It must be time for a new radiator, a new condenser, a new evaporator, change the oil in the compressor, change the air in the tires and rotate the radio *****.

I forgot all about the radio *****....with my exhaust the radio hasn't been on in years......I think this might be it

BTW 193 was the norm on my LT4 when new......after doing the unthinkable of running a 160 stat my norm changed to 173......
