Anyone peform a transmission swap on their C4. I've kinda inherited a C4 with the 4-spd auto and I'd like to turn it into a road course car. It has the mid-level bilsteins, oil and trans coolers and performance rear gears.
I'd want to swap in a manual gearbox but would it have to be the 4+3 or could it take the later 6-speed?
This is assuming it makes sense to do this at all. alternately I'll just sell the car and buy a more suitable track car.
I've done the swap to a Richmond 6spd. Not hard just a bit of work. A dremel tool to 'chop' out the fiberglass boss in the tunnel that hold the shifter. The trans yoke on the driveshaft is replaced with on that comes with the Richmond. Speedo sensor is also changed. In the tunnel a aluminum 'cover' is installed to take up the area that was the shifter boss. Also a shifter boot to go on this 'cover' where the Richmond shifter goes through. An exhaust mount will need to be fabbed to secure the pipes from the tranny.

From a 4+3 to a Richmond and then BACK to a rebuilt 4+3 (and rebuilt OD). The Richmond has "straighter" teeth so it makes gear noise...I wanted to drive a corvette not a diesel truck. This is something that Richmond omits as volunteered info. I welded up a fancy bracket to reattach the shifter to the tunnel.
