I found when installing the Camber Brace and having swapped the two bushings from front to rear on the control arms that there was very little thread left on the bolts after reassembly. On the shim side of the Camber Brace there was no thread showing at all. Even the bolts supplied by RD were the same length as the stock bolts but having more usable thread due to the ends not being tapered like the stock bolts. Being critical about the asthetics of it as well as a comfort zone I searched for a longer bolt. I found that a 140mm length bolt in the 12mm 1.75 configuration is a very oddball item and not easy to find. I did find a company who was able to get them zinc plated, with a full shoulder for added strength. I had to cut a few threads into each with a 12m 1.75 die but they worked out great and they look stock. I just touched up the threads that show with a little zinc spray.
I had to purchase ten pieces and I'm going to hold on to two extra so I have 3 sets I can make available to anyone who needs them. Just PM me.
The hex head bolts supplied for my '89 were longer than the OEM
carriage bolts (c/w a square shoulder under the head) and have
sufficient length for this application. The spacers don't get swapped
on the later design suspension, so perhaps that accounts for some of
the shortfall.
Nice work on sourcing, plating and threading a replacement to suit
your needs. While I'd prefer having an OEM style head in place of the
hex, I'm ok with my current bolts. Others with older cars and little
thread engagement might need your spare bolts more urgently.
I can email some pics if you want to see and or post them. Just pm me. Another thing I like was that my bolts are zinc plated and not black oxided for appearance sake. As you said the later cars don't have an issue but the early ones definately do. I don't know if Dave at RD is aware of how much an issue it is on the early cars with a spacer swap. The nut on the shim side would have been just hanging on by a couple of threads.
I would have preferred an oem head too but the cost to make them would have been very high and you need to buy large quantities to have them manufactured. I looked at shaker screen bolts but you can't find them in a 10.9 grade bolt.

Artv. post a pic if you can do it. It'd be interesting to see.
Hi Bill. I'm not set up for web hosting and I don't think I can post directly to the forum from my computer, but if anyone wants to have a look they can pm me an email address and i can take a few shots tonight and send them. If they want to post them for others to see as well that's fine.
Here's a few pics that Ken was kind enough to host. I sent him a shot of the OEM bolt and the new bolt together next to a ruler but they haven't been hosted yet. Thank's Ken
