There's a short within my cigarette lighter but don't know where and why. I just bought a brand new cigarette lighter adapter or element that is used to heat up the lighter but when I push the lighter in it immediately blow's a fuse. I found a paper clip behind the element and some quarters that are down by the cup holders. That didn't seem to help either and I got all the change out but two quarters. What's causing this to short out so fast? '92 automatic.
Did you check down inside the lighter socket? There may be some tiny particle that's hard to see laying in there. I know it sounds unlikely but it happened to me once.

If it's rusty and/or corroded, the resulting bad connection could be causing an overload. If disassembling and cleaning it doesn't help, just replace it.
I tried to take the console out but couldn't figure it out. I got the one screw our from the front cup holder and another that clicks the console dole but it didn't want to come out. I just got this car about a month ago and the woman I bought the vette from drank a lot of wine it. Looks like some red liquid stuff below the cup holders where the loose change is stuck together. I got it up to 142mph today. I don't really watch Nascar but it makes you appreciate those guys.
If i remember right, there were two at the rear of the console under the console door, one in the cup holder, and then you have to slide the console back a bit to unhook it from the radio plate. then you can unscrew and unhook the lighter.

She drank wine in the car? That is rich. I used to have an associate broker during my real estate career. He was a smooth Italian who liked silk shirts and Lincoln Mark IVs. Any time that he saw a low slung black luxury car oozing down the street he would say: "Now THAT'S a wine drinkin car!"
I'm sure that liquid stuff under the cup holders mixed with metal ain't good so I'll take it to a master tomorrow. I've tried and tried and just can't figure it out. The woman that I bought the 92 from has a 99 or C5 that she's now wanting her C4 back with a laugh and she claims the C4 is faster than her 99 C5. I have driven her 99 once and really got on it on a back road straight away. Although the C4 I have is very fast to me I just don't believe it's faster than her's.
She also want's a newer one and want's me to sell her 99 in a couple of months. I just hopes she waits to get home to pop one.
