Default Hood Adjustment

On your C4, where the hood lathces, when it is closed(your hood that is) can you physically push on the corners above where it lashes and get a little movement up and down? Or is yours tight?
There are 2 stops underneath the hood and I think mine were set to tight and with a little twist of the body, the right side unlatched. SO, if I loosen the right side to allow a little spring action from the latch underneath each side.

Mine is tight with no give. Last Sept. I drove my 88 to Gordon Killebrew's C4 school and we spent 45 minutes adjusting my hood to spec. Gordon is very meticulous. He said it is important to take your time and make minor adjustments until it feels perfect.

The factory realized that over time the large and heavy fiberglass hood being raised by the driver side corner would flex and twist, causing the strikers and latches to get out of alignment a bit. There are several areas of adjustment available on the car for the C4 hood. In addition to the adjustable rubber bump stops at the latch areas, there is a set just in front of the wheel wells.

According to Gordon, the hood should latch securely when dropped from 12~15 inches above the latches. It should be tight once latched. In some cases (like mine) it may even be necessary to loosen the BIG main striker/spring nut and reposition the striker with respect to the latch mechanism. You can use some white lithium grease on the striker to see if it is hitting the latch hole centered or not.

First you want to get the driver side as correctly fit as possible. Then work on the passenger side. Finally, you may have to go back to do some final fine tuning of the driver side. You should try to work incrementally as you bring it in line. Also check for any rubbed spots on the hood underside where it might be making contact with an engine bay component. Fix that first if necessary.

Since I used to hang out in Mililani back when I was stationed at Sub Base P.H., if you send me an email I'll dig up some good web threads I've saved with pictures on hood adjustment "tweaks" and send them to you.

I would check the 2 rubber stops drivers side, passside first to see if they are set two high.
4 total pass side and drivers side.
If you are going to have to do a major adjustment, remove the pins or the bullets on the passenger's side and drivers side first .
If you have to adjust the whole hood latch that is attached to the top of the hood I would remove the back engine compartment panels that are in front of the battery and the window washer bottle.
Just incase you adjust it wrong and can't get the hood open.
