Default difference in exhaust

well i have officially got the 95 a4 in my name so its time to do mods, the first mod is of course exhaust. but im stuck in a dilemma and i didnt no whether i should put a x or h for my mid pipe and then borla mufflers(is the anyway i can get stingers) so if yall would educate me on how the sound would differ between the two i would appreciate it!

Read Nathan plemon's website he recommend X-pipe over H pipe ofcourse H pipe is good too but if u want little uhhh than X-pipe. He got Flowmaster 40 series w/o cats and with headers, his car is pretty modded so the sound is wow. Most LT1 owners here prefer Corsa but i like flowmaster's, here is his link and hope some more members chime in for other cat back sound clips.

and here is mine Idle and Rev Tpis Flowmaster Force II Catback with single Cat.

Tpis Flowmaster Force II with Headers and Hi Flo Single CAT.

how come i never see anybody running a h-pipe on a c4, and does anybody have any input on a x pipe with borla, and is it possible to get stingers or magnapacks for my car?

Check midamericamotorsports.com and this http://randomtechnology.com/chevrolet.html

I never came across X-pipe with Borla here but like i said some one may chime in, or check summit.com. Goodluck.

I don't know where you live, but many towns are coming down on loud exhaust... they are in some eastern states (Delaware, Maryland and NJ, for example) and here in SoCal.

I had elims on an otherwise stock 92 LT1 and they were annoying as hell. I am as sure as I can be that the cabin works as a resonance chamber, amplifying the exhaust noise. It boomed like a *****.

That setup was so loud, I almost failed inspection - 95db limit, 94.3 read... too close... all I needed was a cop with a poor meter and I am on my way to ticket city. or worse yet, a cop with no meter...

I honestly believe that the 6 months I drove that car with the elims, I lost some hearing range. pisses me off.

I installed Corsas on my 92. Love them to death. Some don't like them, say they sound weird and what not... but I think they are nice and sophisticated. Essentially, they sound much like a 302 Mustang. Nothing really wrong with that...

Do what you want, just be aware of the downfalls of this upgrade. Also, the stock exhaust is damned good... you won't gain much power from this upgrade...

Check this thread melroseheaders.com starting new C4 exhaust, 3" dual with X-pipe this would be great for both sound and performance wise, H--pipe tech is bye bye just look at C5 and C6 exhaust none came with H-pipe exhaust, So, its is self explainable to go ahead X-pipe technology. Call melrose must be a direct bolt on for ur car or might be little modification. Any cat back accompanied by headers sound awesome and loud, period. Just the catback dont sound meaner unless u through headers and aggresive CAM, if u want really aggressive mean nasty sound than go for a cam which has a 110 lobe separtion along with headers and any catback exhaust without cats this will be meanest nasty sound. thats it.

I don't think there will be a loudness difference.

What there will be is a tonal difference. The x-pipe will do a better job of scavaging the exhaust gasses which = better performance potential.

Also, the resonator is not so much a restrictor as it is a quieter.

The Corsa system uses a stock-ish resonator with a forward h-pipe. I want to replace my factory cats with RT bullet cats and an x-pipe, removing the h-pipe. It might increase power by 10~15hp - TOPS.

have you given any thought to a chambered exhaust system. I put one on my stock 94 auto and i wouldn't trade it for anything. its got a deep throaty sound like the 60's sidepipes.
there is some resonance inside but u gotta love that roar when u nail it.
just my 2 cents

I went through this about 2 years ago and bought B&B's Catback. I called B&B about their resonator vs their X-pipe replacement of their resonator. They said the X-pipe only produced about 1-2 hp difference from their resonator on an LT4. BUT, the resonance in the cabin was 30% louder with the X-pipe vs the resonator. I have a stock LT-1, except for shorties, and with the resonator it is just too quiet, but it is better than stock. I had more fun with the muffler elims.

well i got a x pipe instead of my resanator(magnaflow), and the muffler shop wasnt open long enough so im getting some magnaflow mufflers in the morning! yall are right it didnt make a difference i notice a different tone in it and it pops on the way down if i rev it all the way. i plan on getting random flow technology cats with some kind of long tube headers(anybody know where some good ones are). but will there be a good exhaust tone with the magnaflow mufflers?

Is your X-pipe stainless? If so, was it 3" or 2 1/2" and how much was it? Thanks
