hey, i got a magnaflow x pipe put on instead of my resanator. its not loud like i thought it was but that doesnt matter cus im going back tomorrow to get sum mufflers put on. what would yall think sound better between flowmaster original 40's and regular chambered magnaflow mufflers with the magnaflow x pipe.
here are sum crappy pics of my vette, just got it christmas and already got sum rims on. ill post some tomorrow when its bright z06
Don't worry - it won't sound anything like a mustang with the flowmaster mufflers. Check out Nathan Plemons C4 (long tube headers, x-pipe, flowmasters):
i just got my magnaflow mufflers on today with the magnaflow x-pipe, and its still real quite and its not loud at all. i mean it has a different exhaust note and sounds different but its no were i thought it should be. should it be this quite with a new x pipe and mufflers, or do i have to put different headers and high flow cats if none at all on?
what do you suggest what kind of mufflers i get if i want it louder?
If you have to keep the cats, you could even try pipes only and see if thats too loud for ya. It'd be a cheap trial, anyway. I've read some favorable reviews on the board about the chambered muffler system too(I'm sorry if that brand was included in the above list, I don't remember the brand name).
I guess one important question, stock cats or do you have hi-perf cats? I've never listened to hi-performance cats, so I don't know how they affect the sound.

I dont mind the sound,,,,,, is there a performance loss/gain with the backpressure completly gone?
Well, as I understand it there is a "sweet spot" for each motor where you'll get the best combo of torque and horsepower. As you lower the backpressure, you tend to gain horsepower, but lose bottom-end torque, of course only to a point. Eventually the HP gains are much less than the torque lost.
And the reverse is true the other way, of course only to a point, then you start losing both.
Without dyno tuning, though, its probably a craps shoot.
Personally, since I'm not a pro racer or nutin', I look for an exhaust that sounds good to me and call it good.
