Teardown Completed - Large Pics
I was able to put in another 5.5 hours the last 2 days.
The heads are off, the Cam is out, Oil pan is removed.
The entire teardown took me 12.5 hours over 4 days.
Here are some more pics:
Heads are off:
3 year old spark plugs:
Timing cover is off:
The Cam hits the CrossBar.
The Cam is out after I jacked the motor, the passenger side motor mount bolt had to be removed. Only had to jack it about 1 inch.
The new Cam is going in.

That is Anti-Seize thread protector.
I use it on anything that goes into Aluminum.

Looks like a roller cam, no need for moly lube, just a coating of engine oil.

It sure looks like way too much RTV was used on prior intake install? Am I wrong on this?
How many miles on those plugs? Looks like they are burning cleanly, but man are they rusted on the outside!!
these are really awesome pics!!!

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like the same parts I just pulled out of my 91. It doesn't look like you capped off your fuel line. When I pulled my engine out fuel kept running out of one fuel line so I plugged it. The next day fuel was dripping out of the other fuel line. What did you do to keep fuel from running out of your gas line?

The motor has 82K Miles. It was never opened up until the last few days by me.
The Lingenfelter 219 Cam just went in.

All I did was unscrew the gas cap and the fuel stopped coming out.

Looks like I'll be visiting this page often. I'm probably going to be taking the heads off an 88 soon so I might start a large parade of questions. I hope the 88 and 89 are exactly the same thing, minus the 9th injector on 89s, eh?

Ask me anything you need. I have tons more pics also.
88 and 89 are exactly the same, except for the 9th injector, but thats no big deal at all.

I wish I had los cajones grandes to do that to my car. At least they are big enough to do it on another's car, but since I have no other alternative DD like her, I guess I won't be ripping at mine until something breaks, rendering it undriveable. Was your car running perfectly before you started the chop chop??
