I need to get this fixed soon as it is fairly dangerous. My lights are fine, this is a problem with the steering column stick itself. I push it down and have the blinkers for a left hand turn click and go on, but then you can't push it back up to make them turn off. You actually have to turn the steering wheel to the left enough for them to automatically go back in the middle. It won't even catch for a right hand turn. You push the lever up and it keeps on going and no lights will turn on. I am assuming you have to get into the steering wheel to fix this which I believe is a pain right? Is this something you guys recomend taking in? Thanks,
Eric
I own an '87 that had a blinker problem when I bought it. Fortunately, I have had several GM columns apart before...the first one is a real learning experience.
Unless you have a steering wheel puller and lock plate removal tool, forget about doing it yourself. You need to remove both to gain access to the turn signal assy.
I was amazed to discover that it is also possible to reassemble the Corvette's cancelling cam incorrectly and it still goes back together. But then, your signals won't cancel properly (when making things fool-proof, never underestimate the ingenuity of fools  )
Being both cheap and curious, I disassembled the turn signal assy and re-terminated the wires that were loose. Just imagine the scene as I was reassembling the two plastic halves when the spring went sproing! Fortunately, I found it in the back of the car after an extended search.
