Default fuel injection questions

I have a MSD distributer #8572w/tach drive & I don't
rememberwhat control box I am using( plug in RPM
limiter) ,I was told it will not work with fuel
injection because it does not have a cam signal. If I
am not having a senior moment I think someone I talked
to at MSD told me this.

Is this a true statement?

How do I keep the old tach drive and run fuel
injection?
and yes I want to keep the old tach drive operating.

Ok I bought a TPIS mini ram off e-bay, never ran on a
car, the thing looks new, came with the fuel rail, and a
BBK 58 MM throttle body.
I am running a Doug Nash 5 speed (don't know the gears
in it right off )
magnesium bell housing W/ trilite hydraulic bearing
(maybe )this bearing is very thick,I do not know if I
can gain enough clearance to use it.
another e-bay buy was a big azz radiator ,it
fits frame rail to frame rail, notched hood to clear
filler neck, runs nice and cool now in HOT
Houston,single puller fan,no shroud.
3:08 rear gear,aluminum flywheel,opinion on this forum
seems to be this will be hard to drive on the street
motor is out of my old 69 impala 350 horse motor that
is rebuilt, balanced,a set of edelbrock aluminum
heads, again ( talked to edelbrock) I seem to have a
possible machined wrong set of heads,I have angle plug
and was told they no make it this way ??
also running dynomax coated 1-5/8 undercar headers
into 2-1/2 full exhaust,no crossover stock mufflers.
I will be using a RCD Engineering dry cam belt drive.

I am going to do the speed density system, using a
7727ECM, mounted either under hood or inside ,don't
know yet.
I will be buying a hydralic roller cam ( size??) ,and
lifters.
that is most of the things I can remember now, project
has been to long in the making ,maybe outdated before
I get it running.
If you need more info just ask

I'm no real expert on MSD (6A or whatever) but I do have a 1980 L82 and a 1987 L98 and I have done extensive engine work on both.

First, I would think you would be required to get a computer controled hei distributor for your 71 in order to take advantage of the computer logic of the speed density systrem you speek of. I would reccomend that you direct this question to The MSI Distributor people out of Memphas, TN. It seems to me that they recently advertised an updated distributor with tach drive. They've always been helpful to me.

Also you might give the people at Comp Cam a call and tell them that you are building a computer controled engine (sd) and see what they recommend. I know they use different slopes on their roller cams for computer and non computer controled engines. BTW, their Beehive springs are also a great addition to any engine.

As I said, I'm no expert, but maybe you can find a grain of an idea in my rambelings.

Good luck!

If you are using a GM/TPI style speed density computer & harness, you will not be able to retain your tach drive. I have tried to run the distributor you have on a carbed set up w/mech tach and it was noisy, cumbersome, and inaccurate. Sorry, but you will need the MSD 8366 and a separate coil. It does not require that you use your 6AL box, but it can be adapted to your ignition system for improved performance and rev limiting.
Edelbrock makes angle plug heads for '87-'91 Corvettes (#60879), and LT1s (#61909). As long as you have the #60879, they should work with your headers and MiniRam. The #61909 will NOT work.
You do not necessarily need a 'computer grind' cam, but I would recommend something along the lines of a relatively custom grind. TPIS has some fairly aggresive roller cams that work great with the MiniRam/EFI. Shoot for something in the 226 to 228 @ .050" duration, 112 to 114 for your LSA (depending on your final comp.ratio), and keep the lift around .550" if the Edelbrock heads are not ported.
