Has anyone tried these? Can you tell the difference between stock? Or is it better to go with the hella/european so you can change out bulbs? thanks for any input.

I had bought a set for my Maserati. They where a vast improvement over the stock halogens. After about six weeks one of them died; I took it to the parts house to attempt a exchange. The manager asked my how long It had been installed. I told him and I quote he said " that sounds about right". After replacing the bad one they lasted 8 months untill I sold the car

I had a set of the Hella's in my 92 Vert and I used APC Xenon bulbs. A BIG improvement over the stock halogen lamps. While the Hella's are heavier being glass, I didn't have any issues with gears or the motors.

The Hella lamps have a different (european) beam pattern that provides a flat top to the low beam pattern and a beam pattern that points to the right so the edge of the road surface is clearly visible. This pattern is great if you drive in rain or fog as there is very little glare above the beam pattern.

The Hella housing can take an H4 type bulb and you can find these in a Sylvania SilverStar and also a PIAA Extreme White bulb. Neither of these bulbs will cause any issues with the stock wiring.

In my 87, I have a set of the SilverStar 6054 replacement lamps. I really don't drive this car a lot at night, but I got these on sale so I felt it was a good deal at the time. They work a lot better than stock but I don't think they are as good as the Hella lamp housings simply because of the better beam pattern the Hella lens provides.

I also have SilverStars for the low beams in my 99 Silverado. Been in there for two years now!

I tried the compsite type lights and wasn't very impressed. I currently have the Silver Star lamps and they seem a little better than stock, but I'd still like more light out there. Mine is a 92 vert.

They rock compared to stock. Make sure they're aimed well, too.

I have CIEBE lamps in my 87 with 100/130 lamps. In a word LIGHT!!!
These have at least as much light output as anything else. Now I see stuff and drive around it instead of running over it. I never get lights flashed at me, they don't shine in oncomming driver's eyes.
These have a sharp cutoff and a kick on the right like most european lamps. They make a world of difference from anything else.
One word, these lamps draw over 18amps on Low beam! I replaced the wiring to the lamps with 12ga wire and new heavy duty sockets and installed 40amp relays with a 6ga source cable. All the factory wiring does now is switch the relays. All together it was less than $200. If you drive at night for any length of time you won't believe the difference it will make in the fatigue factor from sitting in the seat.

they're on my 86 for 10 months now and were a huge improvement, also bumped up the wattage on the fog lights too.

I rarely drive mine at night, but just before hibernation, I put Silverstars on my 90. What a difference. And like jd_v3tt3, I also put the higher wattage driving lights in. Both a huge improvement over stock. The driving lights were simply decoration before. Relatively easy to do, and if you catch them on sale, not expensive either.

I put them in my truck and i thought you could see a little better, BUT they burnt out in less than a year. Too much money not to last longer than that IMHO.

I have 100/130's in the plastic lenses and the light is bright but the pattern isn't what it could be with foreign glass. I'm looking for the best deal on Hella's or Cb'ies.

I have had them in my Vette for 2 years using an H4 upgrade. They are definately bright, but I bought cheap H4 conversions, so they are hard to aim. Bulbs seem fine though.

Took off the Sylvania Silver Stars and installed Sylvania Cool Blues.
They look 25% brighter that silver stars.

My feelings exactly. My next move will be to HID or something similar.

They are much better than stock. In 3 years, one has burned out.
