Default 1989 Headlight problem

Both headlamps started not to open all the way at the same time on my 1989. Can someone give me some direction on where to start? Electrical or motors?
Thank you

I have an 87 and I don't know if your headlight motors are like mine, I think they are. Unplug one of the headlight motors. If they have 3 contacts then they are like my motors. Unplugged, you can jump 12 v to the connector going to the motor to run the headlights up and down. To open, put +12 to the green wire (C terminal) and - 12v to the white/black (RH motor), white (LH motor) wire. The headlight should open all the way and stop. If it doesn't you have motor problems. If it does open correctly, then you likely have problems with the headlight door relays. There are three relays, a LH relay, RH relay, and an isolation relay for closing the RH headlight. The relays aren't expensive and easily replaced.

Your bushings could be starting to fail, too. It wouldn't hurt to replace the OEM Delrin bushings.

Your h/lite motors should have 2 wires, and your model car did not come with relays, but with a h/lite module. This is located under the lh h/lite and attached to the fr. part of the inner sp. shield. I suspect your problem with BOTH motors not operating correctly, to be with the this module. Other 80's GM cars have the same..Pontiac, Camaro etc. I would go to a breaker and try one before doing any h/lite motor work..

I had to replace the Delrin bushings on my 88. Headlight would only open half way, motor would run for a while with the headlight not moving. Will they open all the way by hand? By hand I mean turning the **** on the headlight motor assembly.

My right side light did the same on my 90 coupe. A rebuild kit is about $4.00 from Mid America. It's kind of a pain to fix, but if you work patiently you'll get it. Go to www.corvettefever,com/techarticles, and you'll find one with pictures and all, showing you what to do.
