Anyone using the GM S10 torque converter in there LT1? Seems like it would be a good compromise between stock and the 2400 rpm versions.
Thanks
they used to be. GM no longer has these brand new, they are all remans now. who knows what the hell you will get. i bought a vig. and have never regreted it.
LOL, I bought one of these in 98 and it was a reman. The S-10 has a wimpy V-6, low torque, esp back in 96. I installed one in my Impala SS, the stall speed started at ~2400, three months later when I pulled it out, the stall speed was ~3200. My LT1 tore it to shreds. IMHO, you'd be better off buying a good TC like a Hughes or if you have big money, a PI.
I have a Vigilante in my 86 and an S-10 in my 94.
The S-10 use to be about 2000 stall ,I am about to take it out the thing clunks when you step on the gas real hard and the lag when just crusing when it tries to catch up sucks.
With it I lost about .20 in the 1/4 mile.
With the 4L60E they don't recomend holding the trans in the power break mode for more than 6 seconds. If I flash the converter it is faster in the 1/4 .
