On the general discussion forum I asked about a k&n air filter for an 84. There was talk of some cut filter cover or housing. What is this and does it help. I presently have cold air intake from hood louvers.
Basically you cut the horns off the lid for the filter.Cut it back as far as you can get it to the outside edge leaving a square hole in the lid.I did mine with a dremmel or you can use a cutoff grinder.
The stock air filter lid has several louvers but for the most part, is a solid cover. By cutting the complete face off the cover and just leaving the four sides (like a picture frame), it is less restrictive and ie. the engine gets more air. Look at one of the auto parts dealers catalogs or on line for a picture of a cut lid.
That does not apply to the 1984 Corvette, only the 1985 up TPI Corvette.
On the 1984 you have cold air ducts in the hood. What you can do is cut a hole in front of the radiator to match the oval hole in the hood. The you use some wather stripping to seal the gap between them. That way the hood duct het air from in front of the radiator.
