I've looked in the archives, and I've searched the threads here, and I see people have had problems with the valves and doors as far as heater control problems go. My problem is getting the little buttons on the dash to function. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I thought I'd remembered seeing a thread about this years ago, but now I can't find anything on it. Do I just need to rip the control unit out and try and clean all the contacts, or is there some replacement of a board needed? HOw difficult is it to remove the conrol switch unit?
Thanks,
David
I took mine apart and cleaned it, and it has been working fine since.
However, I have heard that all you need to do is disconnect the battery or pull the fuse for a few minutes, and the control will reset. So I do not know if mine is working because I cleaned it or because I disconnected the battery.
Thanks GFR. I'm guessing as you replied to this post, that you were having the same problems: pushing the buttons sometimes elicites no responces, like the light for that button going on and actuating heat/ac/vents, etc.?
I'll try the fuse pulling idea first, then a battery disconnect, and lastly cleaning. IS that a pretty straight forward thing, pulling the unit out to clean it? How much of the dash will I need to remove?
Thanks again,
David
If that doesn't work, sometimes it's lack of vacuum. Underneath the passenger side fuel rail cover is a 2 way vacuum valve with one line going to the cruise control and one going to the heater controls. On my '95, that valve has broken once (thru my clumsiness), and clogged up a second time. Both times , my heater controls refused to work and were stuck in defroster mode. Just something else to look for
Good luck !
Yes, I believe that your problems sound the same as the ones I experienced.
Check out this web site, it explains how to take the dash apart, and the last section talks about HVAC cleaning. http://corvettefever.com/howto/153_0...cutoff_switch/
Thanks GFR, An interesting article in the link you provided. Their installation of the airbag cuttoff switch resulted in the failure of the optispark unit??? I won't bother there, having had to replace the opti spark once already. Appreciate the link though. Interesting that they recommend cleaning the contacts with an eraser.
I bet that's how my heater/AC doesn't really work. My ciggeratte lighter quit working so I had to replace a fuse in the aux. fuse box and I bet I hit that vacumm line to the heater. If I can figure what and where the line is another thing.
