who has the most miles on their vette??
i have 130k+ on mine. i bought it from the original owner, and from the condition it was in, i say he took pretty good care of it. on a well maintained vette what is the life span of the motor? is the sky the limit? when should i start planning a engine rebuild or swap? car still has plenty of power, doesn't use oil, or smoke.

My car got a new engine at 180,000. And then it was because I was too cheap to get the radiator fixed correctly. :smash:

I remember the last time this thread came up someone had over 200k! Me, I only got a measly 103k ;)

108K Here on My 1990 Quasar Blue Beauty. I changed the motor due to a headgasket leaking antifreeze into the motor at the back of the motor. Original motor has virtually no wear on cyclinders.

Just under 155,000 miles  .
My wife's been behind me when I've punched it, and she says It doesn't smoke. It puffs smoke at start-up though. Hopefully it's just the valve stem seals and not the guides (I'll find out next weekend). A few oil spots on the driveway; what I would call SLIGHT "normal" oil leakage for a 16 year old car. I did change my balancer (it slipped...bad), and my timing chain set (stretched chain and cracked cam sprocket teeth) a little over 150,000.

Re: who has the most miles on their vette?? (mikes84vette)
I've got 130k on my '93. I did the heads & cam at 83k, but the block
has never been touched. There was no ridge at all in the cylinders when
the heads were done.
While I was at the Sebring 12 hour race, Mobil 1 had a display where they had a partially dissassembled engine. They claimed that the engine had 300k on it
with the oil changed every 15k (Mobil 1 of course). No ridge at all on the cylinders!. Made me feel good about the longevity of the block.
The heads, however, may be another story. The guys a CNC cylinder heads,
that did my heads, mentioned that they use pressed in valve guides, which
will give typically 80k of life. The cast in guides that GM uses will last longer,
but that most shops are not tooled to pour guides.
Bottom line is that if you change your oil & not abuse the car (I baby it on the street, but autocross it once every month), it will last a long time, in my opinion.

Re: who has the most miles on their vette?? (foliva)
I've read that fuel injection with it's computer controlled "choke" function adds life too. The claim was that a carburator choke runs richer and longer than the computer choke. The richer mixture washes oil off the cylinder wall and causes ring/cylinder seal to wear away more quickly. I don't if it's true, but these stories about no ridge after 130K miles, motor life beyond 200K miles makes me wonder.

I feel like a piker with only 115,575 on my 84, although I did have to put a new crank and bearings in, it still runs strong.

Mine had like 55.5k when i bought it 17days ago, has about 57k on it now ;)
Was daily driver till it got rained in the other day, once I replace that alternator and spend some more spring cleaning time in it, she'll be back on the road not quite as much as I got my other car back ;)
But I put almost 40k/yr on my cars ;) I like to drive.... a lot ;)
I get a headache I go driving for a few hours....
There's a reason i have $400/mo in gas bills, hrmm maybe I should buy one of them eco-cars ;P
I was once at a restaurant and a guy offered to swap us bills, I was like sure as long as you fill the 20gal tank on my vette and my 15.5gal tank on my cougar we'll do that ;)
Hell I loan out my cougar as long as it comes back washed, cleaned, full tank of gas, and a case of beer ;)

141K, original engine, burns no oil, does not smoke any time, not even on cold startup.
One dime sized spot on the garage floor every week or so.
I'm gonna run this motor until it's worn out. If that ever happens, the ZZ4 looks very nice :yesnod:

Re: who has the most miles on their vette?? (mikes84vette)
1981 has 65,000 original miles and the 1993 has 93,500 miles, both with no engine work (knock on wood) yet.
