I have narrow my VATS issue down to the module, its not the key tumpler or the resitor value of the key.
Has anyone bought a replacement VATS? Superior Chevy does not have it and Said that GM stop making it. Where can I find this module?
I can speak on this subject as I have had it done. I had a vats issue and narrowed it down to the module too and was really worried about how to fire up my car after rebuilding the whole thing...car, engine etc. Since I had a few mods when I built my motor I needed a tune. I got tjwong to do it for me. He disabled vats, egr, air and a tune. He is up in Oregon and a real fair guy to deal with who seems to know his stuff. He is a CF member, and I have never heard anything but good reports about him...that's why I went there and have had no regrets.
Definitely an option worth considering...
I got the lot...for $150....and since I am so far away (Australia), he sent me another chip with a slightly higher idle if I needed it at no extra. So from this I can only assume his price would be fair for vats disable only.
I understand why guys want to disenable the VATS-but essentially your vette becomes an easy theft target. I went with an after market alarm which bypassed the VATs-but still disenables the starter if an attempt is made to steal it. I love the keyless entry and same with the hatch, plus the other features-back up battery etc. other options which I did not have installed were auto start and window functions. It's been about 4 yrs since I had this done-with no problems.
A couple of the Vette mags sell plug in by-pass modules to allow you to disable the VATS. They plug into the existing VATS with no wire cutting. All you need is your ignition key code which'll be 1-15. An additional benefit is that a regular - non-pellet - key can then be used which saves of any key(s) you may want to get cut.
I had my key code read at my local ACE Hardward which can cut keys for my car. Your Chevy dealer can read it too, I had mine read for free at my local Chevy Parts counter.
One by-pass completely disables the VATS full-time and the other is switchable, allowing you to turn the VATS "On" and "Off" via a little toggle switch.
They're pretty inexpensive too. Mid-America sells the switchable model for $59.99 (part # 601-114) and the non-switchable by-pass (part # 601-116) for $24.99. I don't know what year you have, but the by-pass switch/module are listed for 86-89 Vettes.
I have an 86 but had mine turned off in the PROM.
Hope this helps

Any more suggestions?
I already have the after market alarm with remote starter. There are times that the key won't started the car but the remote does, then there are times that both can't start the car and left me stranded.
