Re: Anyone ported their baseplate & plenum? (65Z01)
Seems to me, that without working the heads/exhaust/cam, just redoing the induction is a bit of a waste...you might gain a little, but as usual, it's the entire package that counts...
To tell the truth of MY situation, I don't think that new hotrod engine I put in my '72 here is worth the money for a street driver, the old previously rebuilt L48 engine with the TPI setup was just as good, and got better fuel economy...
24 mpg with the original muncie, vs 20 with a 700r4 and the hotrod engine...I did both engine and tranny at once...so can only compare the two complete drivetrains, not individual components...
now having panned this hotrod engine, the car is still so vastly superior to any stock shark in it's overall performance, it's amazing...
Re: Anyone ported their baseplate & plenum? (87Beast)
There is alot of material that can be removed from the baseplate. The aftermarket manifolds have a redesigned, straighter tract, and can be ported more than a stock one can. I'm cheap, so porting is good enough for me.

I don't know if this works or not, but here's a link to a page on the Camaro/Firebird forum where they've siamesed the intake ports in the tpi base. Don't know if it works, or just an excuse to go out and buy a miniram because you've screwed up your base, but it looks interesting. http://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/F...ML/001492.html
